“Leonce and Lena,” Georg Büchner’s bitter comedy, tells the story of two young people caught between the rigid conventions of their world and the longing for inner freedom.
Prince Leonce, weary of the monotony and absurdity of court life, and Princess Lena, forced to accept an arranged marriage, each flee their own social prison, only to meet by chance in a space of dream and play. Their destinies, though prepared by an absurd mechanism of power, gain meaning precisely through their rebellion and their desire for authenticity.
MC Ranin comes with a stage interpretation in which the bitter irony of the text blends with a spectacular visual language, inspired by Bauhaus aesthetics and Mondrian’s chromatics.
The set and costumes, geometrized and chromatically vibrant, evoke the avant-garde spirit of the early 20th century, where pure forms and abstract volumes become extensions of the characters. The stage space, dynamic and minimalist, transformed by play of lights and projections, suggests the artificiality of the social world and the cold mechanisms of fate, in contrast with the fragility and search for meaning of the protagonists.
